Buxton Athletic Club held their annual club dinner and presentation evening recently, with a host of members recognised for their efforts and achievements throughout the season.

The club also had the privilege of having double Paralympic gold medallist Anthony Kappes in attendance, as he handed out awards and trophies to winners on the night.

Members were able to meet Anthony and see his brace of medals, which he won in Beijing in 2008 and in Londin 2012.

The overall 2013 club championship male winner was Rob White, while the female winner was Rachel Chatwin.

In the veteran categories, Mark Halsey was the male champion and Bev Golden scooped the female honour.

White also claimed the title of most improved whilst Ros Barrett was a deserving winner in the female category.

The best newcomer award went to Jason Bennett for his impressive maiden season with the club.

White was in the prizes again as he was named the fell champion of the year.

In the women’s section this honour went to Helen Brunt.

The prize for the most improved Dream-On Mile times, was shared between Ian Francis and Jake Fearn, who both knocked a full 17 seconds off their times.

The Fletcher Cup, awarded for a handicapped 10-mile time trial around the Goyt Valley, went to Richard Bouglas and the May Morrison Memorial Trophy for the fastest female veteran was won by Sheila Bradley.

A new category was introduced for this year’s awards, for services to the club, and that was also handed out to Sheila.
