Arrows turn on the style to beat Wolves at Queen's Park

Joseph Baugh and Denis Scott led the way with 20 points each as the Arrows were ahead from the start as Jonny Brodee dunked to finish off some fine inter passing by the Arrows.

A brace of three-pointers from Aaron Moseley saw the Arrows lead 26-17 at the end of the first quarter.

Paul Heymann was prominent in the second and only some inconsistent free-throw shooting kept the quarter score to 16-11.

The game was entertaining throughout with the teams well-matched, however, further dunks from Baugh and an important basket from Lycoudis always saw the Arrows in charge.

Daniel Turner played his best game of the season contributing rebounds and a nice basket, while junior star Aidan Dennison produced a cameo at the end that showed he is a senior player in waiting.

Arrows are at home to Ipswich on Saturday and travel to Loughborough on Sunday boasting a 9-4 record at joint-top of the EBL Division 2.

Elsewhere, the Gems’ quest for honours continues after an 84-50 win over Deighton.

The Gems had their best performance of the season to stun the dangerous Deighton on their own home court.

The Gems have been working extremely hard in training and in the first quarter all eight players executed at both ends to take a commanding 28-10 lead.

The Gems had seven different scorers during this period which left Deighton chasing shadows. Good baskets for Stacy Kirk, Kate Loftus and Rachel Campbell were just some of the highlights.

Deighton looked to rally in the second quarter but the play of Stef Kirk was inspirational to the Gems, scoring seven points and being at the heart of the Gems play.

lina Helavouri made a welcome return from injury with an athletic performance as the Gems took the quarter 23-13 and a commanding interval advantage of 51-23.

The Gems were prepared for a Deighton onslaught in the third as they tried to get back into the game.

Kelly Simcox and Helen Palmer were very much on song, as the Gems were well directed by the impressive Kendall James to fight out a close quarter of 22-21 to maintain the advantage.

The teams were a little fatigued in the final quarter and the Gems took it 12-5 to record victory against a strong divisional rival.

The Gems have an 8-1 record and are very much in contention for honours with just five games left, four of which are at home.

Coach Pete Kelly was understandably pleased with the performance. He said: “The group played very much as we had been working on. I am really pleased for them because they have worked so hard on a new and progressive style of play.

“I saw that take shape and they gave a demonstration of great execution at both ends of the court. The final games will obviously be tough but we are running into form at the business end of the season.”
