Adam and James boost Juniors

Killamarsh Juniors became the first side to beat first division champions Hasland Devonshire in the league this season on Sunday.

Juniors were already in a great position to finish as runners up in the league’s top division and this fantastic result enhances their chances no end. The match winners for Juniors were Adam Wheeldon, who scored twice and James Edge who cancelled out John Newton’s Devonshire effort.

Second division leaders Eckington Boys dropped two points on Sunday which could prove costly in their title chase. B Hutchinson scored twice for Eckington with Crawford and Shane replying for Tibshelf Town, Elton kept their title hopes alive with a close run 4-3 win at Clowne Wanderers.

Oxcroft MW played third division leaders AFC Brampton for what was a title decider.

Brampton led the table at the start of play but it was Oxcroft who dominated the game, putting five past Brampton without reply.

Both teams have performed well throughout the campaign but in the end Oxcroft shaded it to become third division champions. Brickmakers and Killamarsh Juniors Athletic had to settle for a point as they both scored four goals in an entertaining game, Brown scoring twice for Brickmakers Edge doing the same for Athletic. There were also eight goals in the game between Grouse Old Boys and Brampton Anchor with the hosts scoring five of them, Ash Morton hitting three of those.

Rowthorne Lane now need just one point to be absolutely certain of lifting the division four title even though they did not play on Sunday.

The reason being that second-placed Three Horse Shoes slipped to a surprise 3-2 reverse at the hands of Chesterfield Town.

Wayne Royal hit four goals a week ago for Royal Oak Brampton and seven days later he repeated the feat, this time in a 6-2 win over Midland Hotel. Lee Coddington’s three goals plus one each from Lewis Cherrill and Chris Clayton saw Crown Inn Killamarsh beat Pilsley 5-0 in the latter’s final game of the season.

In division five Chris Hamilton’s last game for Chesterfield Arms ended in defeat, Arms going down 4-0 to Scarlets Nightscene who were reduced to ten men after ten minutes, Lee Cooke scoring twice for Scarlets. In an amazing game at Castle Leisure Park home side Charlies Bar scored five but conceded six to lose to opponents Black Swan, Mark Needham scoring three of Swan’s goals. To McTighe scored three, Tom Bradley two as Red Lion thumped Hunloke Arms 7-2.

Palterton Sporting could yet avoid relegation from six if they can win their final game as two Shaun Goodwin goals plus one each from John Riley secured them a win in their penultimate game of the season against Cock and Magpie. Brimington Club, thanks to goals from Philip Roberts, Carlo DeFazio and Steve Rotherham beat Barracuda while Hasland Community and Bull and Badger played out a 1-1 draw.

Division seven leaders Renishaw MW won again, Jamie Pleweki scoring the only goal of the game against Holmebrook Tavern. James Watkinson was on target twice in Spread Eagles 3-1 win at Dronfield Miners while Bolsover Old Boys Reserves beat Brampton Rovers Reserves 6-3.

In division eight second placed Woodthorpe Inn put six past Grassmoor Sports Reserves without reply, Walsh scoring a hat-trick in the win, Chesterfield Phoenix were also winners, their victory coming against White Swan reserves by a 3-0 margin, Deakin, Peters and Bassett scoring, North Wingfield MW and Moonrakers drew 2-2.
