Woman bailed after man dies in Chesterfield crash

A woman arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a man's body was found on a Chesterfield road has been bailed.

The 41-year-old woman contacted Derbyshire Police after the crash in the early hours of Saturday, May 28. She has now been bailed.

Police have now said the woman has been bailed without charge.

A spokesperson said: "The woman who was arrested in connection with the fatal crash on May 28 has been questioned and released on bail."

Details of the case have been passed on to the Coronor's office, who are awaiting further information from police to begin an inquest into the circumstances of the death.

Police said they are still trying to confirm if the man has been officially identified.

An appeal for witnesses went out after the crash on Rother Way in Chesterfield in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Officers were called to the road shortly after 12.30am where the victim, believed to be a 46-year-old man who lives locally, was found dead in the carriageway.

Derbyshire police said it was believed that he was hit by a vehicle that failed to stop.

Anyone who drove along the A619, near the Sainsbury’s store, between 11pm and 12.40am should contact the police on 101, quoting incident number 41/28/05/16.
