I congratulate the Derbyshire Times for highlighting the issue of workplace deaths and injuries.
Deaths at work rarely make news compared to criminal activity and yet it is a scandal today that anyone should lose their life by going to work.
As Rosi Edwards, Health and Safety Executive regional director, pointed out, one death has a huge impact on families who have to face the prospect of life without a loved one.
Over the Christmas period we were notified that six people in the East Midlands lost their lives to mesothelioma – asbestos cancer, making it a very sad time for their families.
At the Trade Union Safety Team (Trust) we campaign tirelessly to make Health and Safety a priority even when the odds are stacked against us.
Every year on ‘Workers’ Memorial Day’ we remember all those who have died through work.
Please save the date of 28th April to remember all those who have died through workplace death and disease.
