The joys of living in Chesterfield

I am almost 59 years old and was born and bred in Hertfordshire, just north of London, and in the heart of suburbia. Don’t get me wrong, there is plenty of countryside in Hertfordshire, and a big advantage was the proximity to London, and my favourite football team Tottenham Hotspur. My wife and I moved to Chesterfield three and a half years ago, and we love the proximity here to such wonderful scenery and walking territory. I also love the real ale on offer in the area, especially at particular favourite hostelries!

We really feel that we are now living in the Heart of England (never mind what they say further south in the Midlands!), and having several cities (not just one) within easy reach such as Sheffield, Nottingham, Derby and Manchester offers a great deal with regard to entertainment, such as concerts. I also feel that Chesterfield is at a fulcrum of public transport, with great rail, coach and bus connections. We’ve got a great hospital in our town too. I still follow my first love football team up and down the country and across Europe, but I like to keep an eye on the Spireites too. Oh, I’ve also enjoyed learning so much about local history, with lessons on offer every day.
