Road rules apply to us all: I got caught out in the 50s

May I say how refreshing it was to read that I am not on my own in my belief that whether one agrees with the stipulated speed limit on any given stretch of road or not, all traffic rules – but especially those related to speed – should be enforced in whatever way is necessary.

And may I add that all road users should should observe the limits put in place, or face the consequences of their actions.

All of the letters on the subject in last week’s Derbyshire Times made for excellent reading, and I wholeheartedly agree with their sentiments.

Having been an HGV and car driver for 66 years, with just the one endorsement in the 1950s for exceeding the then 20mph limit in my HGV.
