Off-roading must stop

I am responding to the letter from Mike Worthy of Dec 22.

I represent Peak Horsepower, a bridleways group which campaigns for safe off-road riding in the Peak District National Park.

Our view, based on the experience of our members, is that the use of off-road vehicles on the majority of unsurfaced roads in the Peak Park needs to be stopped in order to protect the interests of non-motorised users: the damage to surfaces which makes them unsafe for horses, the fear of potential accidents and the noise of engines have excluded horseriders from many byways open to all traffic and we believe this is unacceptable.
