WHILST I have some sympathy with Rod Spurrier (‘We must stay local’, Times Talk, August 11). I do think he has missed the point.
Independent shops in Chesterfield are few and far between and getting fewer for various reasons This is mainly due to large super markets selling everything from food to electrical items and also shopping centres on the edge of town.Chesterfield would benefit from a few quality shops to encourage more people into the town centre.
Has he not noticed how easy it is to park his car on the Doughnut during normal shopping times in comparison to a few months ago. This is nothing to do with the “well heeled” as he puts it but if Chesterfield town centre is to appeal it must offer something better & different to complete with the out of town shops and make parking cheaper.
