LETTER: Rise in care home fees is ‘disgusting and immoral’

editorial image

Derbyshire County Council has increased its care home fees for self funding elderly residents by nine per cent.

The reason, it says, is that the council hasn’t put the fees up since 2015. That’s the year before last.

This means that the elderly have to use their savings and sell their houses to pay fees of more than £26,600 per year.

The cost of looking after each resident hasn’t increased by nine per cent.

In my view this is disgusting and immoral.
