Elderly will be isolated

I work as a care assistant at one of the homes in question to be closed and rebuilt as self contained flats etc (Derbyshire Times, February 16).

While I accept that changes have to be made, the care and welfare of residents should be first and foremost.

Residents have already made the commitment of leaving their own home and moving into residential care where they have the assurance of being cared for and having the company of other residents.

Some who do not have family living nearby, enjoy the hustle and bustle of daily life and knowing someone is always close at hand/on call.

Building these flats will put residents behind their own front door (yes) but it will also leave some feeling isolated.

Where are the residents going to be accommodated while the building is being demolished and rebuilt?

Also there was no mention in the report regarding redeployment of staff when the venues close...
