Donut shops

I READ your article in the Derbyshire Times regarding the possible redevelopment of the Donut and, try as I might, I cannot see the point in building more and more shops in a town which already has quite a few lying empty, and of course the planners won’t factor in provision for car parking – they rarely do, so where will all the drivers park when the Donut is all shops?

In my view, if this development goes ahead as well as the planned Riverside one, I foresee that Chesterfield will have a mass of empty shops, rents will be sky high and business rates even higher.

Shopping streets such as Knifesmithgate, which is struggling at the moment, will be finished off completely. The town doesn’t need more shops, it does need reasonably priced car parking space!
