It’s always been evident that our region had vision.
And if proof were needed, look no further than the hugely exciting Chesterfield Waterside project (see pages 10&11).
As the country languishes in the depths of an economic downturn plans are being turned into a reality, demonstrating that here, at least, the spirits of enterprise and entrepreneurship are very much alive and kicking down doors.
The 60-acre, £350m development will see the creation of a waterside urban village – including 1,500 homes and apartments, offices, hotels, shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.
A new canal basin – already constructed as the first phase of this cutting-edge project, expected to be fully completed by 2023 – will lie at the heart of this massive regeneration development.
The project, expected to create thousands of jobs, has backing. Solid backing. No pipe dream this. We will all be watching progress with interest.
It happened somewhat belatedly, but at last the Spireites and their fans - got the celebration they deserved.
Great to see so many turn out to cheer on the boys at Chesterfield Town Hall. Same place next year? here’s hoping!
