Young woman suffers multiple injuries during Pokemon hunt in Chesterfield

East Midlands Ambulance Service and Edale and Buxton mountain rescue teams were called to Linacre woods shortly before 2.30pm yesterday.

"It appears the lady from Chesterfield, who is in her mid 20s, had been out hunting Pokemon when the accident occurred," a mountain rescue team spokesman said.

"Her slip and tumble resulted in suspected injuries to her ankle, back, neck and elbow as well as suffering hypothermia by the time she was located.

"When the team arrived paramedics had managed to gain access on the steep ground to give pain relief - but they required the team's specialist immobilisation and evacuation equipment as well as manpower to get the woman out of the tricky spot."

Team members stretchered the woman to an ambulance and she was taken to the major trauma centre at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield for assessment and treatment.

The mountain rescue team spokesman added: "We’d like to remind and encourage people enjoying the outdoors to be mindful of the terrain and weather conditions they might encounter, especially this time of year.

"Proper footwear, waterproofs, clothing and equipment can make the outdoor experience much more enjoyable, not to mention safer."

Pokemon Go players have been involved in hundreds of police incidents since the gaming app phenomenon launched earlier this year, according to the BBC.

Fusing digital technology with the physical world, Pokemon Go is an augmented reality game which enables players to travel the real world in order to virtually capture Pokemon with their smartphones.
