A new grassroots football club is urging people of the East Midlands to help it raise £2million to create a state-of-the-art community sports facility.

Three clubs - ADASC FC, GFC Alfreton Town Girls and Ladies and Leabrooks Juniors FC - are merging to create Sleetmoor United, which hopes to establish one of the premier grassroots football facilities in the region.

The £2m it needs to raise will be invested in revamping the existing facilities at Sleetmoor Lane Sports Ground in Alfreton to include a floodlit, all-weather 3G pitch, a state-of-the-art clubhouse, improved site security and car parking.

Sleetmoor United chairman Matt Wheatcroft said: "This is a bold and exciting move to create a new club and sporting facility which will set the standard for grassroots football in the East Midlands and beyond.

"Over the years, all three clubs have touched the lives of thousands of families across Derbyshire, providing opportunities to participate in grassroots sport, learn crucial life skills, make friends and have fun.

"Sleetmoor United will build on that tradition. We want to build a community-based football club which offers opportunities to all, as well as creating a state-of-the-art sports and social facility of which the whole community can be proud."

The club has already secured funding pledges of £1m.

South Normanton-based firm Purpose Media is backing Sleetmoor United with £100,000 worth of business and marketing support over the next three years free of charge.

Matt Wheatcroft, managing director of Purpose Media, said: "We're passionate about sport here at Purpose Media and, as a long-standing supporter of local grassroots football, we're delighted to be lending our full support to Sleetmoor United to help it make its plans a reality.

"From a business and a personal point of view, this is about giving something back to the community and proving how well a grassroots sports club can be run.

"Sleetmoor United has the potential to become a standard bearer for grassroots football in the East Midlands and beyond and I hope as many local businesses as possible will get behind the cause."

Purpose Media has created a new brand and logo for the club and is currently developing its new website.
