MAJOR improvements to two vital women’s services are planned at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

As part of the £1.2m development, the Women’s Health Unit is being transformed into a purpose built area and the Trinity maternity ward is being upgraded to bring it in line with Chesterfield Birth Centre.

Changes to the maternity ward will include en suite toilet and showers in each bay rather than outside and a milk preparation area for mothers who choose not to breastfeed.

Patients from Trinity Ward will move to Portland Ward along with day case and emergency patients from the WHU. All outpatient treatment activity and the early pregnancy assessment unit will move to the Margaret Grieve Suite from Friday, May 11.

Work is due to start on Monday, June 4 with both Trinity Ward and the WHU expected to open by the end of October.
