An inquest has been opened and adjourned after a Mansfield woman died from injuries sustained in an assault.

Carolyn Hyatt, 43, of Redgate Close, died on August 28 at Nottingham City Hospital following an assault at a property in Shirebrook, the inquest heard.

Giving evidence at Chesterfield Coroner’s Court today (Fri), Detective Constable Ryan Millard said Derbyshire Police attended the property in the early hours of August 6.

DC Millard said: “It would appear Carolyn had been the victim of some kind of assault.”

The court heard Ms Hyatt was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre, in Nottingham, before she was taken to the critical care unit at Nottingham City Hospital.

Carolyn was pronounced dead on August 28.

DC Milward said: “Carolyn passed away as a result of the injuries she sustained on August 6.”

James Newman, deputy coroner for Derbyshire, said: “If the [perpetrator] is to face criminal charges, it might be the case that an inquest is not heard.”

The court heard a post mortem examination took place on Wednesday, and the court is awaiting the report.

A review date was set for February 26, 2016.
