This gives us a unique insight into the successes of the local business community and is the reason we were keen to get involved to celebrate the Derbyshire Times Business Awards.

There is a lot for businesses and organisations to shout about and the awards are a great way to celebrate the contribution they are making to the town.

Chesterfield is home to a wide variety of businesses and organisations which help to put the town on the map. From large household names to smaller niche start-up businesses and service organisations, employers are helping to make a huge impact in the town, across the county and on our economy.

Businesses in Chesterfield provide employment for 48,000 people and attract 20,000 commuters to the area.

Some key national brands have chosen to base their headquarters in Chesterfield and there is a strong engineering sector operating in and around the area.

According to the latest Derbyshire quarterly economic review the levels of entrepreneurship in our area are on the rise and that is evident in some of the exciting new businesses that we have seen open up on the high street and beyond.

Chesterfield is well placed for making the most of the rise in visitors to the area and has seen a thriving food and drink scene develop over recent years.

New developments in the town mean that this is a trend that looks set to continue.

I have seen the difference employers make to their local communities, their staff, apprentices and students, which is why we wanted to help the wider local business community celebrate their achievements later this year.

Chesterfield College is hosting the awards ceremony on 15th November 2018 and we are looking forward to welcoming the shortlisted nominees.
