PEOPLE are to be asked for their views on how a former sheltered housing scheme should be used in future.
Woodview House, Eckington is due to be demolished in August after the North East Derbyshire Council-owned facility was closed last year because it no longer met modern housing standards.
The council, together with Rykneld Homes which managed the scheme, considered the future options for the building in line with wider regeneration proposals contained in the Eckington Masterplan.
However, it was agreed to demolish the building on West Street, as the cost of refurbishment was prohibitively high.
Cllr Betty Hill, member with responsibility for housing, said: “Woodview House had become very difficult to let in recent years and the cost of bringing the facilities up to modern standards did not represent best value for money.
“Over the coming months we will be consulting with local people to consider the future uses of the site for the community, as part of wider plans to improve the town.”
Demolition work on the site is due to start in mid-August.
Residents are reassured that the site will be kept safe and tidy until the land is brought back into use.
