What Chesterfield football fan plans to do with '˜England World Cup Winners' tattoo

There is nothing wrong with a bit of optimism.

But when it comes to watching the England football team, it is probably best to not get too carried away.

Unfortunately for Chesterfield man, Lewis Pearson, that is exactly what happened.

For the 22-year-old, from Brampton, got ‘England 2018 World Cup Winners’ inked on his left leg after the Three Lions’ 2-0 quarter-final win against Sweden.

Speaking before England’s semi-final match against Croatia, Lewis said: “It is the best I have seen them play and I think it is now or never and I think we could do it. I have got a feeling we are going to win it. It’s coming home.”

So what was the reaction from family and friends when he returned home with the £40 tattoo?

“My wife called me an idiot and my mum wasn’t too pleased,” Lewis said. “

“My sisters were laughing about it.

“If we lose it will be a bit of a regret but I can’t see it happening.”

Sadly, England did lose 2-1 after extra time.

“I will have to think of how to cover it up but it will not be straight away,” Lewis added.

Lewis is not the only one to let the World Cup fever go to his head and get a tattoo.

One England fan got former Chesterfield schoolboy Harry Maguire’s face inked on his chest after taking to Twitter before the Sweden match to say that he would get a tattoo of Harry if he scored, which of course he did. Harry replied: “Can’t believe what I’m seeing... Great effort.”
