Whaley Bridge to consult on a town plan

A second High Peak town is taking advantage of a national scheme to give communities more say over how their neighbourhoods develop.

Whaley Bridge Town Council is following in the footsteps of Chapel-en-le-Frith in giving the go-ahead for the preparation of a Neighbourhood Development Plan to cover the area of Whaley Bridge and Furness Vale.

The Town Council will seek approval from High Peak Borough Council and the Peak District National Park for a proposed neighbourhood area, the first step towards preparation of a development plan.

The proposed area follows the parish boundary and is accompanied by a supporting statement.

Councillor Godfrey Claff, executive member for regeneration at the council, said: “It’s great to see another High Peak community taking advantage of the changes introduced by the Localism Act 2011 which enables local people to take forward planning proposals for the area where they live.”

Residents can comment on the plan, which can be viewed on the High Peak Borough Council website, by taking part in the consultation which runs until August 1st by emailing [email protected].
