WEATHER WARNING: Strong winds forecast for Derbyshire

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for strong winds in Derbyshire.

The yellow alert came into force for the whole of the East Midlands at 11am today (Saturday) and will remain in place until midnight.

A warning of possible travel disruption has also been issued.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: “Southerly gales will develop today as an active frontal system moves across the area from the west.

“Gusts of 40-50mph are likely quite widely inland with gusts of around 60-65mph affecting English Channel coasts at times.”

Winds are expected to steadily decrease from the west this evening.
