Today's weather: wind and rain warning in place for Derbyshire

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for wind and rain in parts of Derbyshire today, including Chesterfield and the Peak District.

The forecaster predicted that “heavy rain may lead to some flooding and disruption to transport” early this morning, before the day becomes drier and the warning ends around 9am.

The warning for wind is in place for longer however, and could impact journeys, especially on high roads.

The Met Office said: “A spell of strong winds is expected to move northeast across a large swathe of the UK through Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.”

No roads have been reported as closed to high sided vehicles yet, but the warning says that there is potential for this to happen while the winds are strong.

The strongest gusts of wind are predicted to top 50mph today (February 29).

Temperatures will reach highs of 7C today, and will fall as low as 3C this evening.
