Train cancellations for passengers travelling to and from Derby, Sheffield and Nottingham

East Midlands Railway (EMR) has issued a ‘do not travel’ message for routes between Derby and Matlock; Liverpool and Norwich; and Sheffield and London, which runs via Chesterfield.

In a statement, EMR said: “Heavy rain has flooded the railway at Bradway Tunnel (near Sheffield) and there’s a points failure at Derby North Junction (near Derby).

“This has closed the railway between Derby - Sheffield, Nottingham - Sheffield and between Derby - Matlock.

“This is disrupting our services on the London St Pancras/Derby/Sheffield route, the Derby - Matlock route and the Liverpool/Nottingham/Norwich routes.”

Rail replacement buses are unable to run due to significant flooding and poor road conditions.

‘Check before you travel’ says East Midlands Railway

Rail passengers in Chesterfield are being urged to check or change their travel plans today amid Storm Franklin.

East Midlands Railway (EMR), which operates the Intercity service between Sheffield and London via Chesterfield, is advising customers to expect disruption on Monday and consider postponing their journey if possible.

The train operator said: “We have lifted ticket restrictions on Monday 21st February and Tuesday 22nd February, and tickets dated the 21st February will be valid on Tuesday 22nd February.

“If you cannot postpone your travel, you should allow yourself extra time to complete your journey.

“High winds and heavy rain present a risk of further short notice disruption caused by debris being blown onto the tracks (such as trees) and flooding.

“Such incidents usually result in part of the railway being closed whilst teams work to remove fallen trees and fix railway infrastructure, and given the poor weather conditions we cannot guarantee that alternative forms of transport will be available.”

EMR, which also runs a service between Derby and Matlock, added that the car park at Matlock Bath station is inaccessible due to flooding.

Derbyshire County Council says the A617 at Hornsbridge roundabout, which has been closed, is due to re-open this morning.

Drivers are warned that other local roads may be closed across the county due to localised surface water flooding.

Derbyshire Police are advising residents that if you must travel, avoid river crossings and please obey any road closed signs- do not move them as you could put yourself and other people at risk.

Do not enter any floodwater, either on foot or in a vehicle. Turn back and find an alternative route. Even where water levels begin to lower the depth can still be unknown and cause significant danger.
