School shut and roads closed after flooding hits Derbyshire – and there's more rain on the way

Some roads and a school were closed in Derbyshire due to flooding today.

Heavy showers on Sunday and overnight have meant some roads are impassable due to the amount of rainfall.

Asher Lane near Ripley is also closed.

Findern Primary School in Derbyshire announced on its website it was closed today due to adverse weather conditions.

A statement on its website said: “Due to adverse weather conditions the boiler house has been flooded and the boiler damaged.

“School will be closed to pupils.”

Parts of the county remain under an official yellow warning from the Met Office for rain and snow. The warning lasts until 3pm today.

The River Derwent in Derby is set to peak above 2m high tonight.

The A6 near Buxton is now back open after it closed last night due to flooding. It was closed in both directions as motorists abandoned their cars. More rain is forecast for the town.

The latest Met Office forecast for Buxton says more rain - although not heavy - will fall throughout the afternoon and into the evening.

A spokeswoman for Derbyshire County Council said: “We’ve reopened the A6 after clearing floodwater and debris from the road.”

Bakewell market was cancelled today due to the floods.
