Police attended a street in Brimington after concerns were raised about a man.
Officers were called to Cherwell Close at 6.40pm yesterday.
A Derbyshire Constabulary spokesman said: "There were concerns for the safety of a man who was later taken to hospital."
On Twitter, Derbyshire Armed Response Unit said it was an 'eight-hour deployment' and the 'subject eventually allowed us to get him medical help and weapons were recovered'.
They added that the incident was 'brought to a safe conclusion' with support from police negotiators and paramedics.
The tweet ended with #MentalHealthAwareness.
