Half of the signs remind motorcyclists to filter with care when there’s queueing traffic and the remaining ones warn drivers to ‘Think Bike’ and to check their mirrors when turning.

Andy Adlington, Derby and Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership’s motorcycle safety officer, said: “In Derbyshire, countryside crashes involving motorcyclists tend to be caused by rider error – but in urban areas the blame tends to be more evenly split between drivers and the riders themselves. That’s why we’re appealing to both groups to look out for each other during the winter months when bad weather can increase the risk of crashes.”
