Officers from the Long Eaton Safer Neighbourhood Team is urging people to make sure their car doors are locked when left unattended, after the series of thefts in the last week - with various items taken from the vehicles.

The majority of the vehicles had been left insecure when parked overnight.

Sergeant Nick Pitt said: “In some respects it is a good sign that people feel safe enough in the areas that they live they can leave their vehicles insecure, however this shows that we do have criminals that will take an easy opportunity to steal items from cars that are not locked.

“We are working hard to catch those responsible and will be targeting the issue at the relevant times with additional patrols both uniformed and plain clothed, however we would ask residents to help us help them by being extra vigilant and by locking their vehicles, particularly overnight.”
