Warning as broken glass found '˜deliberately sprinkled' along a child's slide in Staveley

Parents have been warned to be vigilant after broken glass was found deliberately smashed along a slide in a children's play area in Staveley.

The ‘shocking’ discovery was made at a park behind Staveley police station, just off Overton Close, according to the Facebook group Spotted: Staveley.

The incident was deemed particularly disturbing as the glass appeared to have been ‘deliberately sprinkled’ up and down the slide as well as on platforms at either side.

Residents have since cleared the glass but have urged any parents taking their children to the park to double check play equipment.

Councillor Chris Ludlow, Chesterfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for health and wellbeing said: “The safety of children using our playgrounds is something we take very seriously.

“If anyone finds any dangerous items such as broken glass on any of our play equipment, they should report it to us at once by calling 01246 345345.

“If you see anyone causing anti-social behaviour in any of our parks or play areas, report it to the police by calling 101.”

A post on the Spotted: Staveley group read: “Please if your kids are out, check where they play.”
