WALTON: WI members encouraged to participate in keep fit class

The April meeting of Walton WI was held in St John’s Church Centre, and was opened with the singing of Jeusalem. Mrs Sheila Todd, president, welcomed members, one new member and one guest.

Members were advised that last month’s raffle in aid of the Smiles Train Charity had raised £66.

They were encouraged to sign up for various forthcoming events and outings. Particular mention was made of the keep fit class which is held weekly on a Monday morning.

Reports were given of the council meeting at which Walton WI was presented with its 75th birthday certificate and also of the group meeting held at Holymoorside.

Mrs Hilary Turner then gave a brief resume of a recent course she had been on, entitled from Plot to Plate.

The speaker, Lynn Thornley, gave an interesting and informative talk on baskets and containers. The vote of thanks was given by Mrs Kath Meakin.

Tea and homemade tray bakes were served.
