Hope’s Wakes week begins this Saturday, with a day of festivities in the village.
Buildings decorated on a theme of celebrations, will be judged in the morning along with Wakes scarecrows in gardens around Hope.
An exhibition of “Celebrations and Jubilees” will open in St Peter’s Church and the will then open to visitors every day throughout the week with refreshments available.
During the afternoon, Hope’s new and retiring royalty, accompanied by visiting royalty from other villages, floats and fancy dress competitors, and to the music of Castleton Silver Band, will process round the village before returning to the sports field for entertainments, sideshows and stalls.
Saturday’s events will kick off a full week of activities for everyone in the village, which are listed in detail in the Wakes programme on sale now in local shops and pubs.
