Villagers fire up the mowers for disadvantaged children

On July 18, villagers spent the evening cutting grass verges in the village to save the parish council £300 in maintenance bills.

The council in turn agreed to donate all the money saved to YHA charity Breaks for Kids – which raises funds to send disadvantaged children to summer holiday camps.

Local resident and YHA employee Lawrence Cramer, who took part in the cutting, said: Lawrence said: “It was a fantastic team effort which took over three hours to complete. We all had fun, though, and enjoyed a well deserved pint afterwards.”

The event was organised by Alex Millward, of Millwards gardening company, who provided the safety equipment and two trucks to carry and dispose of all the waste.

Lawrence is also taking part in the Prudential Ride London –which follows last year’s Olympic circuit – on August 4, for the charity.
