Village to get new multi–use games area thanks to cash

A rural community has received £25,000 funding to create a games area.

Youlgrave Parish Council is celebrating after receiving the funding boost from SITA Trust for its project ‘Alport Lane Playing Fields MUGA’.

The cash will enable the conversion of a tennis court into a multi–use games area. Sleeper terracing will be incorporated in the bank to encourage spectators and for school use.

Councillor Andrew McCloy, who has been leading the project, said: “This is great news for our village community. It will provide more opportunities for all ages to exercise and enjoy sport, whether they choose to play competitively in teams or more informally. We are also very keen to ensure that tennis is still played in Youlgrave, so the remaining court will be improved and facilities enhanced.”

Marek Gordon, chairman of SITA Trust, added “We are delighted to have been able to support this project through the Landfill Communities Fund.

“This important source of funding has been available since 1997 and has provided such worthy projects with more than £1.2billion.”
