Vigilant community praised after two men arrested for burglary at Derbyshire home

A vigilant community have been praised after two men were arrested for burglary at a home in Derbyshire.

The two offenders were allegedly spotted acting suspiciously around the property on Bubnell Lane, Baslow, at about 3.25pm on Saturday, April 14.

Community members alerted police and followed the men as they left from the area, keeping officers informed as they followed.

The men were arrested soon after on suspicion of burglary by officers nearby in the village.

Inspector Daron Abbott, of Derbyshire Constabulary, who is in charge of policing in the Derbyshire Dales, said: “It is really important that our local communities act as our eyes and ears so that we can help prevent residents from falling victim to crime.

“We are grateful to residents, Neighbourhood Watch members and passers-by who report their suspicions to us, as their vigilance can help us make arrests.”

Graham Turner, 57, of Kirkstone Road, Newbold, and Richard Judson, 42, of Highfield Road, Newbold, have been charged with burglary.

They appeared before magistrates at Chesterfield Justice Centre on Monday, April 16 where they were remanded into custody pending trial.

A 39 year old woman from Chesterfield was also arrested on suspicion of burglary and has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
