Thousands of revellers lined the route to enjoy the sunshine and the longest procession of floats, bands and dancers for years.

Led by New Mills Brass Band and the town’s dignitaries, the parade wound its way through the town with floats dedicated to everyone from May Queen royalty to local businesses and schools. While walkers the Phoenix Pipe Band, Urban Gypsies, High Peak Samba, Chesterfield Musketeers, Loud and Proud cheerleaders, scouts, guides, army cadets, Wigan Pie Eaters motorcycle club and the Billerettes entertained the crowds.

The day continued on the recreation field with performances in the arena from the bands and dancers plus New Mills martial arts. Outside the arena there was the May Queen prize giving and dozens of stalls and fairground rides amply supported by a great selection of food and drink.
