VIDEO: ‘Team Megan’ returns to Matlock victorious

A Lycra–clad team of Matlock fundraisers have cycled 300 miles, raising nearly £20,000 for charity.

Team Megan – otherwise known as Phil Maycock, Nick Jenkins, Marcus Smith, Martin Bonsall, David Watts, Andrew Hodkin, Pete Denton and Jake Hodkin – raised the cash for Arthritis Research UK by cycling from London to Paris.

They took on the challenge after Phil’s daughter Megan, aged ten, was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis.

On day one they started off from Crystal Palace and caught a ferry to France from Dover.

On day two there were severe weather conditions, with wind and non–stop rain proving to be the toughest challenge.

Tired legs made the third day of cycling very slow, but the sun brightened everyone’s spirits.

The final day of the journey saw the return of the wind and rain but with only 60 miles to complete it seemed to go fairly quickly.

The team thanked all their supporters for their help and donations.

The Maycock family stated: “We are so lucky to be surrounded by so many fantastic people and this is something we will never ever forget.”
