VIDEO: Prince Charles arrives in Buxton to start Derbyshire visit

The Prince of Wales will also attend a farming summit at an undisclosed location, alongside key figures and groups including charities, banks and landowners, to explore actions which need to be taken to avert a crisis in the farming sector this winter.

Arriving on the royal train into Buxton Railway Station, Prince Charles was welcomed on the platform by a party of dignitaries including High Peak Mayor Stewart Young and the High Sheriff of Derbyshire Oliver Stephenson.

The Prince will visit the Farming Life Centre in Blackwell, near Buxton, which has been supported through grants totalling £93,000 from the Prince’s Countryside Fund.

At the centre, which provides a range of business and health related services to the farming and rural community, he will meet with a local farming family as well as members of Buxton Young Farmers’ Club as they take part in a stock judging activity.

He will then head off to the farming summit, before later moving on to Wirksworth Station, where he will see the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway and travel the ‘milk and honey’ line in a restored 1959 diesel railcar.

The car was restored by the railway’s young volunteers and the line was nicknamed the ‘milk and honey’ line because of its history of carrying farm produce.

The Ecclesborne Valley Railway was founded in 1992 and the team of volunteers have worked tirelessly to bring the railway back to a fully functioning line, injecting over £1 million into the local economy.

The Prince last visited the county in 2012.
