Meanwhile, Bolsover folk have taken to social media to defend their town.
On Facebook, Michelle Levick said: “I can think of much more miserable places and that’s just locally. What a load of rubbish!”
Heather Skinner said: “I’ve lived here all my life and love Bolsover!”
Dave Longden said: “What a load of cock and bull. It’s a smashing little town.”
Trevor Marsh said: “Since I responded to the questions in the survey, I take issue with suggestions that Bolsover is ‘miserable’. In truth, it is about people’s personal feelings about themselves, not about their location.”
Patrick Dolan said: “There’s good and bad in every area.”
Craig Mason: “I can think of worse places.”
Jessica Birks said: “Bolsover is so cute as long as you stay away from the bad areas.”
Sue Bailey said: “I have great friends in Bolsover and they are some of the nicest, most generous people ever. However, there are many catty nasty people as there is everywhere you go.”
On Twitter, Joannie Dixon said: “Last year experts said we had the highest number of devil worshippers. Utter codswallop!”
Jude said: “You should NEVER take notice of any sort of poll.”
