An online petition has been launched to find a loving home for a '˜neglected' dog.

The petition claims the 12-month-old pooch called Meg lives in mud and dirt outside a Derbyshire property.

However, despite the many concerns expressed online, the RSPCA says it has checked on Meg and is satisfied she is healthy and being cared for.

“All she wants is a loving home,” says the change.org petition, which was set up by a Derbyshire woman.

“You can see the love in her eyes.

“She just wants a cuddle and warmth.”

Commenting on the petition – which has so far been signed by 1,348 people – Jeanette Weston said: “It is disgusting that a dog is treated like this, left to suffer out in the open in the horrendous weather we’ve had lately.”

Jeannie Saxton said: “Dogs are nicer than people.”

Jackie Brookes said: “It is cruelty and neglect – she needs a loving home.”

Holly Dickinson said: “I’ve seen this dog multiple times in poor conditions.

“She needs medical care and warmth.”

Joan Grey added: “Something needs to be done!”

An RSPCA spokesman said: “I can confirm that we have been contacted about Meg and an animal welfare officer has been to check on her.

“We have given some general advice to the owner but are satisfied that the dog is healthy and being cared for.”

When the Derbyshire Times visited Meg’s owner in the Hope Valley, she said she felt threatened as a result of the petition.

We couldn’t ask her any more questions as she told us to leave – otherwise she’d call the police.
