Starkholmes Fun Day was held at the village hall on Saturday and offered a variety of activities including children’s fancy dress, medieval stocks, refreshments, games and belly dancing.

Jeffrey Wheatley, one of the principle organisers of the event, said: “It went very well, we had hundreds of people there – even more than last year.”

There was the parade of the royalty, which featured Kaiya Martin–McCoy as carnival queen, Imogen Clark as carnival princess, Maddy Alcock as rosebud and Ewan Clark as page boy.

“We had a World Cup penalty competition, we had children’s races and Arabian dancing,” Jeffrey continued.

The highlight of the day was a fly–past by a Hurricane aircraft.

“It was a good day all–in–all,” he said. “One of the nicest things from my point of view was that the people who were entertaining the crowds were all local people – we didn’t bring them in from elsewhere.”
