Christmas arrived in Chesterfield at the weekend as the town’s festive lights were switched on.
911 singer Lee Brennan, who is appearing in panto in Chesterfield this Christmas, pushed the button on Sunday alongside the town’s mayor Councillor Steve Brunt and Peppa Pig.
Councillor Amanda Serjeant, Chesterfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for town centre and visitor economy, said: “It was great to see the thousands of people who turned up to our Christmas lights switch-on.
“Everyone I spoke to said they had enjoyed the entertainment on the stage and the opportunity to meet Peppa Pig, Santa and the stars of the Aladdin pantomime around the town beforehand.
“The event is a really important part of our commitment to support the economy of the borough. The extra footfall that events like this bring are important in supporting local shops and market traders and it is the first of many activities taking place in Chesterfield in the run-up to Christmas Day.
“This includes a market every day from Thursday 8 December until Christmas Eve and Santa in his grotto in the upstairs of the Market Hall on various days in the run-up to the big day.”
Details of the dates Santa will be in his grotto can be found at www.chesterfield.gov.uk/santa.
