Leg waxing is just one of the activities that friends and family have organised in order to raise money for a vital piece of equipment for a cystic fibrosis sufferer.

Jay Smith, 24, has recently been suffering with her breathing and has even been in hospital after suffering a blood clot on her lung.

Family and friends have set a target of £7,000 to cover the cost of a state-of-the-art vest for Jay.

The Cystic Fibrosis Vest is an airway clearance system which provides vibrations to the chest wall and helps clear thick mucus and can be used every day at home, giving Jay a greater level of independence.

Friend Helen Clarkson, whose husband Luke has agreed to get his legs and armpits waxed in order to raise funds, says that Jay’s condition will be massively helped by purchasing the vest.

“Jay’s had a blood clot recently and needs this vest to make her more independent,” said Helen.

“We’ve already raised nearly half of the £7,000 in just over six weeks so we’re well on target.”

The waxing event takes place on Monday, April 27 at the Headroom salon.

Tickets (£5) are available on the night or by calling Helen on 07772 844699. You can also visit facebook.com/vestforjay.
