Vandals damage cars in New Mills

Police will be heading out on increased patrols in New Mills after a five cars were damaged.

Vandals used a sharp instrument to scratch the paintwork of the vehicles parked outside properties on Longlands Road overnight between April 12 and 13.

The New Mills and Hayfield Safer Neighbourhood Team will be carrying out targeted patrols in the area and will be speaking to people about the steps that they can take to protect their vehicles from criminals.

Officers are actively encouraging residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to police on 101 or 999 in an emergency to help to stop a crime from happening.

The team are advising motorists to park in well-lit, overlooked areas and to use garages or driveways where possible to extra protect their vehicles.

Other crime prevention advice includes ensuring that vehicles are properly secured and that no valuable items are left on display.
