Dramatic photos show the aftermath of a car accident which took place on Saturday evening in Grassmoor.
The incident, which occurred shortly before 8pm, involved a car which had hit the Sportsman Inn on North Wingfield Road.
On arrival, firefighters found that there was no one trapped in the wreckage but that the building had suffered substantial structural damage.
Landlady, Karen Dove, said: “Luckily there were only two customers in the pub at the time and both those plus the bar staff were in the other room.
“The building shook and it scared the people in here - one of the staff dropped a tray of glasses as a result.
“Afterwards we had a couple of extra customers to have a look at the damage and the five lads in the car which hit us said they just lost it going round the corner into Chapman Lane.”
Karen said this incident is the third time the pub has been hit by a vehicle in recent years.
The first two involved cars going in to the bay windows to the right of the main doors but this has been the first time a car has hit the corner of the building.
She must now wait for a structural engineer to come out to assess the damage but added that the pub will remain open for business throughout the Christmas period.
