A road sweeper that was intercepted by armed officers earlier today was ‘taken lawfully’ say police.
The vehicle was stopped on the A38 by the Derbyshire Armed Response Unit after appearing on police systems entering the county.
They had believed it had been stolen from South Yorkshire but that was not in fact the case.
The driver - who was arrested after his vehicle was ‘boxed in’ by officers - has now been released.
In a tweet, the Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit said that despite the mistake, the incident had allowed them to ‘brush up’ on their tactical pursuit and containment (TPAC) skills.
