Two more artisan markets for Buxton

Two further artisan markets are to be held in Buxton in August and September.

After the success of the first artisan market trial in Spring Gardens on June 7, the town team asked for two more with High Peak Borough Council’s licensing team agreeing they can go ahead on August 2 in Spring Gardens and September 6 on the market place.

Organised by the Market Co, the two trial markets, with the second due to take place on the market place on July 5, are aimed at revitalising the town’s struggling market.

Surveys are being carried out at the first two trials by students at the University of Derby, to help Buxton Town Team and High Peak Borough Council decide on the market’s future.

A Buxton Town Team spokesperson said: “The town team felt that it would be a shame if the June and July markets were held and then nothing happened for several months.

“We hope that markets on the first Saturday of the month throughout the summer will provide an attractive shopping experience for Buxton residents and visitors alike and will provide a boost for the town’s shops.”

And Denise Valente, of The Market Co, added: “The Market Co is delighted to have been invited to continue to bring the artisan market to Buxton in July, August and September while the survey results are collated and analysed.

“We hope that the people of Buxton will come along and experience the event for themselves, meet our amazing array of artisan food, drink, art and craft stallholders, enjoy the entertainment and sample some amazing culinary delights from the street food.”
