Tributes to Stapleford dad killed in M1 crash

Tributes have been paid to a young Stapleford dad who died in a collision on the M1.

Michael Joesph William Luciw, 27,who had a baby daughter, died when the white Ford Transit van he was travelling in as a passenger was involved in a collision near to junction 24 of the southbound carriageway.

The incident happened at around 2am on Monday October 12 and also involved a blue Mazda Premacy.

The 87-year-old driver of the Mazda also died in the collision. The driver of the van was taken to the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham where he remains in a stable condition.

Michael’s mother, Andrea Shelton and father Stefan Luciw, have released the following statement on behalf of his family: “It is with deepest sadness that Michael Luciw, loving father, son, brother, uncle, grandson and nephew, was sadly killed in the early hours of Monday morning on the M1 in a fatal car crash in which another person also died.

“We as a family would appreciate at this time to be left alone to come to terms with his loss. He was a huge part of all our lives and will be deeply missed. Thank you.”

A Facebook page called Michael Luciw Condolence Page has also been set up. It includes tributes from his devastated friends, and partner Melissa Wheeldon. She wrote: “Mike was such a big part of everyone’s life and left so many amazing memories we all appreciate the kind words and I know Mike will too.

“Mike was such an amazing man and the love of my life, still can’t believe that me and our child and his mum and brothers and sisters and rest of the family will never hold him again. Mike I love you baby and Elise loves her daddy too keep shining bright angel.”
