Trial date set for trio accused of starting Langley Mill fire which killed three people

A dad and his two sons will stand trial accused of the murder of three people who died in a fire in Langley Mill.

The fire happened at a flat on North Street at about 4am on Sunday, June 21.

Peter Eyre, 43, and Anthony Eyre, 21, of Central Avenue, Sandiacre, and Simon Eyre, 24, of New Tythe Street, Long Eaton, were each charged with three counts of murder.

They today (Monday) appeared at Nottingham Crown Court where they pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Amy Smith, 17, her six-and-a-half month old daughter Ruby-Grace Gaunt and friend Edward Green, also 17, from Belper, all died in the blaze.

The defendants spoke only to confirm their identities and pleas.

Family and friends of Amy and Edward were present in court.

A trial will begin at the court on January 12.
