Signalling problems are causing chaos on train lines around Sheffield with some people waiting up to 45 minutes on delayed services.

Northern Rail has announced that the issues - currently ongoing - are due to signalling.

Some services have been cancelled entirely, while other train passengers are stuck on stationary trains near Sheffield.

A tweet released by the firm said: “CANCELLED: Due to signalling problems 11:50 #Sheffield to #Leeds due 12:49 will be cancelled.”

“Unfortunately due to signalling problems services on this line are currently disrupted.”

Some passengers have taken to social media to report long delays. @A_Arnold21 said: “Disgraceful delay outside Sheffield, been waiting 45 minutes to be told were 7/8th in a queue #shocking.”

Another passenger added: “One stop away from Sheffield and seven trains backed up, could be stuck here up to two hours.”
