Delays nearly an hour long as M1 closed between Mansfield and Chesterfield following three-vehicle collision

Two lanes on the M1 northnbound are closed between J28 Mansfield and J29 at Chesterfield, following a road traffic collision.

At 2:50 this afternoon (September 17) fire and rescue crews from Stavely, Alfreton and Ashfield attended the RTC near J29.

The crash involved three LGVs. Nobody was injured however one person had to be freed from a vehicle.

Derbyshire Police and East Midlands Ambulance Service were also at the scene.

There are 8.5 mile long tailbacks in all four lanes causing severe delays of up to 50 minutes, with vehicles travelling at an average speed of 10mph.

The AA has also reported that the length of the delays is expected increase before the road is clear.

The road is expected to be clear by between 4:45pm and 5:00pm.
